The U5 Junior Arsenal Program is a parent-involved initiative, where a parent must remain nearby for the volunteer coach to contact in case assistance is needed with the child.
The focus is on creating a fun environment while introducing basic physical literacy skills. More details about the ASA Grassroots Program can be found at Festival Play (PTM) - Alberta Soccer.
At this age level, ASA believes players benefit most from learning the fundamentals of soccer through active engagement, with an emphasis on providing ample ball touches for all players.
The ASA grassroots plan does not include formal teams at this age. Instead, each group will rotate through four activity stations:
Each station lasts 12-15 minutes to ensure every player gets as many ball touches as possible.
At this age, the most important goals are for children to have fun, get comfortable taking direction from others, improve coordination, and build confidence!
