Coach Information
Thank you for your interest in coaching! We deeply appreciate our volunteers and their commitment to helping the community. Please follow the steps below to get started.
Do I need prior experience to coach?
- Experience is helpful, but not required!
- Many of our coaches start with a passion for the sport but little knowledge of soccer. Don’t let inexperience stop you from volunteering!
- We offer free access to the CSA/ASA Long Term Player Development Coaching Courses (formerly known as NCCP Courses). These courses are fun, engaging, and very helpful for all coaches, regardless of their experience.
How do I become a volunteer coach?
- Register as a coach through the RAMP registration system: [Online Registration Link].
- Complete a Criminal Record Check (CRC) and Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC). You can request a letter from the club to help with this.
- Join a team roster: Once registered, you will be added to a team.
- For U9-U19 coaches, an EMSA E-Card is required.
- Complete the age-appropriate online NCCP course.
- Complete the following modules:
- “Coaching Soccer in Canada”
- “Understanding the Rule of Two”
- Complete Respect in Sport certification.
- Note: The Alberta Soccer Association requires all coaches to complete the appropriate coaching courses before coaching.
I’ve never coached before, and I may not know the sport at all. Can I still coach a team?
- Absolutely! We encourage all parents to volunteer. Without volunteers like you, we wouldn’t be able to keep all players on the field. Your enthusiasm is what we value most, and we’ll support you every step of the way!
Are there any perks associated with coaching?
We offer a coach incentive program starting with the 2022 outdoor season. Coaches can receive a rebate of the registration fee once the season ends and after all team equipment is returned, along with the volunteer deposit refund.
Rebate Details:
- U5/U7 coaches: 10% of the registration fee.
- U9-U19 coaches: 10% for the first year of the incentive program, with a 5% increase for every additional year of coaching at this level.
The rebate is applied to the registration fee of one child per team coached. For example, if a coach has two children on the team, the rebate will apply to one child’s registration. If the coach is coaching multiple teams, the rebate applies to each child on those teams.
Do you have a Junior Coaching program?
Yes, we are proud to offer a Junior Coaching Program for volunteers aged 13-18. Junior coaches bring a fresh perspective to teams and gain valuable skills that will help them become excellent coaches in the future. These coaches are paired with a senior coach who will act as a mentor.
To register as a Junior Coach:
- Follow the same registration steps as a regular coach.
- Junior coaches do not require a CRC if they are under 18.
At Fort Saskatchewan Soccer, we believe in creating a space where everyone belongs, both on and off the field.
