Most Asked Questions

What is the difference between Community and Club programs?

  • Community Program (Tiers 4-7): This program is designed for players who enjoy playing soccer in a less competitive environment. We focus on developing soccer fundamentals while fostering a positive, fun experience. Teams have one practice per week and one to two games per week, depending on the season.

  • Competitive Program (Tiers 1-3): This program is intended for athletes who are committed to developing their soccer skills and competing at a higher level. These players train 3-5 times per week, depending on the season.

What is the difference between Tryouts and Assessments?

  • Assessments: For players in the community program, assessments are required. These help us place players of similar skill levels together and determine the most appropriate tier for their team. We also use assessments to submit team tiers to EMSA.

  • Tryouts: For players wishing to join the competitive (club) program, tryouts are mandatory. Players must sign up in advance and attend the tryout. Fort Saskatchewan Soccer coordinates these tryouts with external support to help identify which players are best suited for specific teams, or if further training is needed.

What equipment does my child need to play soccer?

Players are required to bring the following:

  • Indoor or outdoor soccer shoes
  • Shin pads
  • A labeled water bottle
  • Black soccer shorts
  • Black socks

These items can be purchased at Winners' Way Source for Sports.

Please Note: No jewelry is allowed during practices or games, including hair ties with metal components.

What is playing time like during a game?

  • Community Program: Players generally receive equal playing time, as long as they attend practices and contribute positively to the team (in terms of attitude and effort).

  • Club Program: Coaches determine playing time, which is often equal but can vary based on factors such as player performance, position, and team needs.

What are the costs for my program?

Costs vary depending on the age group and whether your child is in the community or competitive program.

When will we hear about our child’s team and coach at the beginning of the season?

Rosters are typically finalized and shared with coaches at least one week before the season starts. Coaches are responsible for reaching out to families to inform them of their child’s placement on the team.
